Press releases finance media will actually publish

Finance journalists receive a steady stream of broker press releases. Most are deleted unread. The ones that get coverage share a few traits: real news, clear writing and a genuine angle for the outlet's readers.

Is it actually news?

Good reasons for a release: a new licence, entry into a new market, a significant partnership, a product launch with a real difference, a senior hire, funding or original research. Weak reasons: a minor feature update, an award few people recognise, or "we're excited to announce" with nothing to announce.

If your release would bore your own team, it will bore an editor.

How to write it

  • Headline: state the news plainly. "X Broker secures licence in Y" beats clever wordplay.
  • First paragraph: who, what, where, when and why it matters.
  • Quote: one quote from a senior person that adds perspective, not adjectives.
  • Facts: numbers and specifics, verifiable.
  • Boilerplate: brief company description with regulatory details.

Distribution

Wire services give reach, but direct relationships with relevant editors get coverage. Tailor your pitch to each outlet and offer something extra — an interview, data or commentary.

Beyond releases

Expert commentary on market events, contributed articles and original data often generate more coverage than releases. Position your analysts as go-to sources.

The takeaway

Send fewer, better releases. Real news, clearly written, pitched to the right people — and complement them with commentary that makes your team a trusted voice.
